Dr. Joice V. Thomas is the Chief Executive of MPEDA-NETFISH (Network for Fish Quality management and sustainable Fishing). NETFISH organizes capacity building awareness programme among fishers in all coastal states in India mainly on fish quality and conservation of fish resources towards achieving sustainable fishing in Indian waters. Around 25 years experience in fisheries sector mainly in the capture fisheries and did many projects in the marine waters which produced more than 100 research papers and articles. Besides educating fishers on inculcating responsible fishing practices, concentrate in various developments programmes such as fishery improvement programmes, infrastructure development on the fishing harbours, development of fishing fleets, etc. Developed many fishery extension tools such as hand books for fishers, leaflets, posters, animation/documentary films etc for educating fishers.
Completed doctoral programme at Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala, India on “Impact of trawling on sea bottom and its living communities along the inshore waters of Kerala, south India”. Also did a post doctoral programme on mangrove ecosystems at Tropical Botanical Garden Research Institute (TBGRI) Palode, Thiruvanathapuram.
